Our History
A Brief History of China Medical University Hospital
China Medical College Hospital was opened on November 16th, 1980, by Professor Ting- Fu Wang as its first superintendent. Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai took over as superintendent in 1995. Through his vision and excellent leadership, China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) soon expanded into a medical center. In 2001, he began to chair the China Medical University Board of Trustees and Medical Healthcare Systems.
Since then, the third superintendent, Prof. Cheng-Chieh Lin, has been a great successor with many achievements. From 2009 onwards, the current superintendent, Prof. Der-Yang Cho, an outstanding Neurosurgeon, led CMUH into a world-class medical center.
Under the leadership of Chairman Chang-Hai Tsai, the hospital has extended its services and set up a medical system throughout Taiwan. CMUH has grown from a regional hospital to a medical center to a Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospital with over 6,000 beds. It is now the second largest healthcare system in Taiwan, providing excellent medical services and education in Western and Chinese medicine.
