As medicine advances by leaps and bounds, stem cells and regenerative medicine are important fields of biomedicine in the 21th century. In view of the lack of integrative institutions in the development of stem cells in domestic hospitals and research institutes, and in order to realize the hospital's vision and goal of "becoming a world-class Chinese and Western medicine center " to meet the needs of increasing clinical services and research of stem cell transplantation and cancer treatment, the hospital in April 2015 planned the first domestic research center to explore stem cells and regenerative medicine from an interdisciplinary perspective, and the Integrative Stem Cell Center (ISCC) was formally founded in August 2015.
The center brought in world-renowned stem cell expert Academia Sinica Fellow Cheng-ming Chuong to serve as its senior scientific advisor and recruited Taiwan's excellent younger stem cell researcher Professor Shih-chieh Hung to assume the role of the center director, for jointly taking charge of its operations. In an effort to integrate interdisciplinary expertise in emerging stem cell research, the center has actively recruited outstanding experts and scholars from the fields of physics, chemistry, materials, biological information, and 3D printing to join an international interdisciplinary stem cell-based research team.
Our research team, in addition to promoting the development of stem cell biology, ontogeny, tissue development, and regenerative medicine, incorporates the above advanced basic research into the emerging treatment strategy of regenerative medicine, so as to improve patients' well-being and make up for the shortage of contemporary medicine. The achievement of this vision will lead the hospital to become a leader in the field of stem cell research in Taiwan and even internationally.
