Time flies, and 37 years have passed since the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University was  establishment in 1980. 37 years ago when the department was established, the doctors working for the department were only babies. And now, they are working for the department to deliver babies. That is the big romance in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

Under the leadership of Directors Xu Taiyan, Cai Hongde, Ye Lianshun, Hong Yaoqin, and Lin Wu Zhou, the department has established a commendable reputation in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology around the country over the past 37 years. The department has established a good reputation in terms of training personnel for obstetrics and gynecology, research in related disciplines, and even the clinical patient care.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has had a good foundation since Director Xu took office. In 1983, the High-Risk Pregnancy Clinics and Mom's Classrooms were set up to provide more advanced medical services for pregnant mothers in central Taiwan. In 1986, the department has ushered in the birth of the 10,000th babies in our hospital.

The department set up a special clinic in 1983, which is expected to bring new hope to infertility patients. In order to further enhance the treatment of infertility in our department, Director Tsai went to Japan in 1987 to study and introduce advanced foreign concepts and techniques for treating infertility, and in the next year, the IVF laboratory was set up. In January of 1988, the first test-tube baby was successfully delivered in our department, which greatly encouraged our infertility department. After that, we've continued to improve technology and equipment.

In addition to the fertility clinic, the department also continued to conduct development and innovation for evaluation and treatment of urological diseases, screening and treatment of gynecological cancer and minimally invasive surgical techniques. In addition to precise urodynamic assessment, the latest laser treatment technology is also adopted in urological/gynecological evaluation and treatment. In addition to screening of cancer for prevention and treatment, the department also continues to develop radiotherapy and improve the quality of life of patients with gynecological cancer. As for the endoscopy, based on traditional endoscopy, the department also begins to use more delicate robotic surgery or even the Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery.

In addition to clinical services, teaching and research are also a very important part for the department. Under the guidance of the former director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, we have published hundreds of medical articles to realize equal emphasis on clinical and fundamental research and development. Teaching in the college, including the Department of Medicine, the Department of Nursing and the School of Post-Baccalaureate Chinese Medicine, is the responsibility of the department. Meanwhile, the academic activities in the department and the trainee's teaching are also well-knit and enriching. There are also regular large-scale speeches that invite professors from other medical centers and foreign scholars to come and share their experiences.

Looking back on the past 37 years, our predecessors have gone so far to establish a good foundation for today. Now, under the guidance of Director Lin Wu-Zhou, the department is booming. We hope to work together with all colleagues to provide high-quality and comprehensive medical services to women with the most dedicated heart and make the department an exemplar in Central Taiwan.
