Sleep Medicine Center

Department Introduction

China Medical University Hospital in 1990 set up a sleep and breathing examination room and to serve a wider range of patients and provide a high-quality, warm, and comfortable environment, the Sleep Medicine Center was founded in 2007, which was expanded to eight beds from the original three beds and moved from the second medical building to the Meide medical building while a sleep clinic was set up, through which to assess whether a patient needs to undergo a sleep examination or referral to other specialties by means of a doctor's detailed inquiry. In 2014, the center added demonstration bedrooms, providing comfortable and spacious home layout, making you feel like at a hotel or your home, rather than a hospital. The sleep space planning with education characteristics, combined with the expertise of physicians and psychologists, has designed a sleep space conforming to standard sleep hygiene. It separates the beds from the activity. The quiet, light, and pure thoughts are simply and clearly presented in the room, so that the patients receiving evaluations can gain realistic experience and then modify their home environment accordingly. We provide comprehensive sleep diagnosis and complete follow-up services to help patients improve their sleep problems and boost their quality of life.

Sleep helps to reshape the brain, establish new connections between cells, and change some neural pathways’ signal strength. Psychologists have long discovered that adequate sleep is not only good for health, but also helps to learn and improve memory effects. Many studies also point out that sleep assists with memory consolidation and that the brain transforms short-term memory into long-term one, which is then stored in many areas of the brain cortex.

Adequate sleep can protect, restore memory, and prevent memory decline, as well as avoid the accompanying phenomenon of memory interference after learning, and is beneficial to language learning. On the other hand, lack of sleep or sleep deprivation affects the effect of learning and memory. Sleep is important for kids who learn music as it helps with language and repetitive and deft movements learning.

The center integrated relevant departments to become an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary inspection and treatment center to address sleep problems and provide continuous medical care so that everyone can sleep well.

The center attained accreditation as a professional sleep institution from the Taiwan Society of Sleep Medicine.
