Department Introduction

Our unit (gastroenterology) aims to treat patients with gastrointestinal (GI), liver, pancreatic and biliary diseases. The unit has been established for 20 years. Now, there are 22 attending physicians, 7 fellow physicians and 24 technicians. 
 
 
We provide services including outpatient care, inpatient care and all kinds of medical examinations such as upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy), small-bowel endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, capsule endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), abdominal ultrasound and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS).
 
Medical Services
The therapeutic techniques are as follows: gastrointestinal bleeding (bleeding of ulcer and venous angioma), endoscopic hemostasis, stent placement, balloon dilatation and placement endoscopic biliary stent, endoscopic removal of biliary stones, GI polypectomy, endoscopic submucosal dissection, ultrasound-guided ablation of liver tumors and percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT). Patients can get their examinations and treatments from outpatient department, emergency room or inpatient department.
 
In addition to the services of outpatient care, inpatient care and regular examination, we are also engaged in teaching and research including periodical health education, seminar and international academic exchange, to benefit patients in central area of Taiwan.
  • Becoming a clinical treatment center for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and a clinical trial center for new antiviral drugs.
  • Becoming an endoscopic center to enhance the techniques in all kinds of diagnoses and treatments and to increase the diagnosis rate of early gastrointestinal cancer so as to treat early to improve patients’ quality of life and survival rate.
