China Medical University Hospital(CMUH)'s 'Eye and Ent Medical Center' in use, creating patient-centered one-stop friendly services, providing cutting-edge and precise treatments for otolaryngology

Integrated Building for Otolaryngology and Precision Treatment, Moving Towards International Standards
China Medical University Hospital officially opened the 'Eye and Ent Medical Center,
Chairman Chang-Hai Tsai of China Medical University and Healthcare System presiding over the ceremony mentioned that to provide more comprehensive medical services, they specially constructed the country's first integrated medical center building focused on 'Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, and Dentistry.' This includes the 'Ophthalmology Medical Center,' 'Ear, Nose, and Throat Department and Comprehensive Auditory Health Center,' and the 'Dentistry Department.' The building actively develops emergency and critical treatments and cutting-edge therapies, offering various specialized services and precise treatments. It shoulders the responsibility of a medical center, becoming a strong referral institution for primary care clinics, and aims to provide international standard medical services.

Creating Patient-Centered One-Stop Friendly Services
Superintendent Der-Yang Cho stated that the 'Eye and Ent Medical Center' is a national first. Currently, there is no medical institution naming a building after ophthalmology and otolaryngology. This decision is due to the hospital's growing business scale and reference to international medical institutions' practices, such as the Cleveland Clinic, planning each building's medical usage based on the 'Organ System.' With a 'patient-centered' approach, outpatient services, laboratory tests, surgeries, and inpatient facilities are integrated in the same building, offering specialized patients convenient and high-quality one-stop friendly medical services.

Cutting-Edge Development in Otolaryngology
The Ophthalmology Medical Center has the highest outpatient and surgical volume in the central region. It possesses many internationally advanced medical technologies, including femtosecond laser cataract surgery, ultra-minimally invasive corneal endothelial cell transplantation surgery, and microtube surgery for glaucoma. It also offers several pioneering specialized medical services: (1) Myopia Laser Center: Introducing the world's latest myopia laser equipment, operated by corneal experts with 25 years of experience. (2) Dry Eye Treatment Center: Introducing pulsed light laser for dry eye syndrome, Lipi Flow thermal pulsation. (3) Retinal Disease Advanced Treatment Center: Introducing international state-of-the-art examination equipment and 3D/OCT-guided ultra-minimally invasive retinal surgery. (4) Low Vision Rehabilitation Aid Center: Using modern electronic aids to improve the visual quality of visually impaired patients. (5) Children's Vision Rehabilitation Center: Nation's first designed specifically for children, allowing amblyopic children to have stereoscopic vision. Additionally, the hospital actively develops cutting-edge medical technologies, such as AI, stem cells, and exosomes, to treat corneal and retinal diseases. To serve rural areas, telemedicine clinics have been established to provide medical services from the medical center to rural populations.

The Ear, Nose, and Throat Department provides four major medical services: Ear, Nose, Throat, and Head and Neck Surgery. Each subspecialty has developed innovative treatment surgeries. A 'Comprehensive Auditory Health Center' has been established, offering hearing services from age 0 to 100. In addition to specialized surgeries for head and neck tumors, the Head and Neck Surgery Department integrates interdisciplinary collaboration, achieving superior results in the treatment of moderate to severe head and neck diseases nationwide. The department also has the country's first 'Voice and Swallowing Center,' primarily improving and preventing the most common and challenging complications of voice and swallowing in head and neck cancer.

The Dentistry Department provides 'comprehensive, refined, digital, and customized' oral healthcare services for the entire population. For example, the department combines '3D computer simulation software, 3D printing technology, and ultrasonic bone knives' for orthognathic surgery, extending this technology to the reconstruction of obstructive sleep apnea and reconstruction of upper and lower jawbone defects. The department also uses endoscopy to perform minimally invasive surgeries for temporomandibular joint diseases and maxillofacial fractures, as well as navigation-assisted high-difficulty oral functional reconstruction, showcasing dental specialty medical services.

Fulfilling the Vision of China Medical University Hospital for Excellence in Healthcare
The newly opened 'Eye and Ent Medical Center' is the eighth medical building in the China Medical University Hospital area, with 34 examination rooms, 61 dental treatment chairs, 16 operating rooms, and 75 general beds. This aims to provide patients with a more comfortable outpatient waiting experience and a higher-quality inpatient environment. Additionally, the new operating rooms embrace high-tech and digital medical advancements. The goal is to enhance Taiwan's development of specialized otolaryngology medical services, continuously providing patient-centered one-stop friendly medical services.
